Aquaponic Design

Aquaponic systems are appealing for so many reasons – they’re interesting and fun to work with, they add marketing value to your business, they can be organic, and so on. But what happens when you decide you want to grow aquaponically? Well, naturally the next step is to design your system. And that’s where the nerves come in… In August of 2016, we teamed up with aquaponic expert, JD Sawyer of The Aquaponic Source, to bring you a webinar on aquaponic farm design & economics, with a focus on DWC (or raft) systems. Now, we’re bringing the webinar recording to you as an official Upstart University course! This webinar course is for anyone considering using an aquaponic system on their farm and will serve to reduce some of that intimidation factor of aquaponics, while helping you gain a better understanding of aquaponic farm economics and showing you how to design your own aquaponics farm.

In this course:

  • Create a basic conceptual design for an aquaponic farm
  • Layout fish tanks, filtration, and growing systems
  • Determine plant and fish production
  • Estimate farm revenue and expenses
  • Bonus conversation on passive solar greenhouses

This course is taught by JD Sawyer, Owner & CEO of The Aquaponic Source and Colorado Aquaponics.
